Eight Labor Assembly candidates join APC
Eight Labor Party (LP) state assembly candidates defected on Friday to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa state.
The eight candidates are from the constituencies of Auyo, Kirikasamma, Bulangu, Malammadori, Kafin Hausa, Birniwa, Guri and Kaugama.
The politicians were received by Governor Muhammad Badaru, during an event at government house, the governor's press aide, Habibu Kila, said in a statement.
Mr. Kila said the governor also received a member of the Labor Party's northern presidential campaign council who left the party and joined the APC.
"Governor Badaru expressed his gratitude to them and promised that they would be accompanied in all party activities and urged them to be loyal party members."
One of the politicians who defected, Muhammad Makinta of Guri local government area, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, said they joined the APC after realizing that the party in the state had more prospects, the statement said.
Mr. Makinta said they will work to ensure the victory of APC candidates in the general elections in their respective areas of influence.
While welcoming the new APC members, APC State Chairman Aminu Gumel assured the newcomers that they would be granted the rights and privileges enjoyed by former members .
