Elections: Your votes will count, Buhari assures Nigerians

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (Retired), has urged Nigerians to vote for the candidates of their choice in the February 25 and March 11 elections, assuring them that "your vote will count".

It was then that he assured the electorate that adequate security had been provided to ensure a smooth exercise.

Buhari revealed this on a nationwide broadcast from State House, Abuja on Thursday.

The President said, "I therefore urge every citizen to go and vote without fear for the candidates of their choice, because security must be ensured and your vote will count.

“I urge you, however, to avoid violence and avoid actions that could disrupt electoral processes.”

While announcing the new deadline of April 10 for the circulation of old N200 notes, Buhari claimed that the new Naira policy implemented by the Central Bank of Nigeria has dampened monetary policy.

"I am aware that this new monetary policy has also contributed enormously to minimizing the influence of money in politics.

"This is a positive change from the past and represents a bold step by this administration to lay a solid foundation for free and fair elections," he said. .
