Ellen Pompeo says goodbye to 'Grey's Anatomy'

Ellen Pompeo is officially bidding farewell to 'Grey's Anatomy'...the series star just said goodbye after learning she was leaving the long-running drama.

Ellen made the announcement Thursday on social media, saying she was "eternally grateful and touched by the love and support she has received the past 19 seasons playing Meredith Gray on the ABC show.

In her farewell message, Ellen understandably thanked the fans and said they were the ones who made her run on "Grey's" so fun and iconic.

As fans of the show will already know, a teaser for the mid-season premiere of "Grey's Anatomy" shows Ellen's character bidding farewell to her fellow doctors as she walks away from Seattle and headed for Boston. There were also earlier reports of Ellen reducing her role to just 8 episodes on the current season 19, and she has appeared in 7 episodes so far.

Ellen's appeared in over 400 episodes over a long stretch of the show, and while there have been recent rumors that she may be reuniting with former "Grey's" bandmate Patrick Dempsey on a new show, Patrick shot the news.
