England v India: Reece Topley takes 6-24 as Tier Series host

Second Royal London One Day International, Lord's: England 246 all out (49 overs): Moeen 47, Willey 41; Chahal 4-47 India 146 all out (38.5 overs): Hardik 29, Jadeja 29; Topley 6-24England win by 100 points; series level at 1-1Scorecard

Topley took 6-24 - best numbers for the England in a men's ODI - as the hosts ably defended 246.

The 28-year-old, whose the career nearly ended in injury, retired openers Rohit Sharma for a duck and Shikhar Dhawan for nine.

When Rishabh Pant chipped a full Brydon Carse throw midway over nothing and Virat Kohli edged David Willey behind for 16, India were 31-4.

Suryakumar Yadav stopped the charge from the England with 27 and Hardik Pandya threatened with 29 but Topley returned to the Suryakumar bowl via the inside edge and Moeen Ali had Hardik caught deep to effectively end India's hopes.

Topley added the wickets of Mohammed Shami, Yuzvendra Chahal and last man Prasidh Krishna to eclipse the 6- 31 by Paul Collingwood, England's previous best ODI figures. India were eliminated for 146.

Despite falling to 102-5, England fell to 246 in 49 overs, largely thanks to Moeen's 49.

Willey, who was crucially dropped on one, also made 41 after leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal had toppled England's mighty top order with 4-47.

The result ensures England, back at Lord's three years to the day since winning the World Cup, have fought back after their crushing defeat in the first ODI.

The decider takes place at Emirates Old Trafford on Sunday from 11.00am BST.
