It's the fourth time in six T20s this summer that England have been eliminated and there have been another failure for Jason Roy, who hit 17 of 18 balls.

Jonny Bairstow scored with 27 balls , while South Africa let-arm wrist spinner Tabraiz Shamsi tore England apart with a career-best 5-24.

The defeat means England lost a third straight T20 series, following defeats to West Indies and India this year, for the first time and they failed to win a series of white balls in a summer at home for the first time since 2013.

Reeza Hendricks previously hit 70-for-50 and Aiden Markram hit an undefeated 51-for-36 as the Proteas paced their innings brilliantly to go 191-5.

David Willey's return was the choice of England bowlers, taking 3-25 including the elimination of Quinton de Kock in a maiden at the wicket at the start of the innings.

England are next in action as a three-test series against South Africa begins at Lord's on August 17.

Their next T20 mission will be on a seven-game tour to Pakistan in late September ahead of three T20s against Australia leading at this year's T20 World Cup in October and November.
