Enugu guber: CUPP denounces IPAC, warns Iyere

• Don't deny us our victory in Enugu, LP tells INEC• HURIWA storms INEC office and demands declaration of results

The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has warned the Inter-Party Consultative Council (IPAC) not to go too far in intervening in the controversy surrounding the election of the governorship of Enugu State.

The coalition also blasted Edo state-born activist Kennedy Iyere, warning he would be held responsible for any violence and bloodshed in the state.

IPAC Enugu Chairman Edwin Alor had at a press briefing in Enugu yesterday urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare the winner of the gubernatorial elections with results already collected.

IPAC says the Commission should accept Nkanu East's controversial result and announce a winner. However, at a press briefing yesterday, CUPP President Ogbonna Okafor chastised IPAC for acting against its own code of conduct.

Okafor said IPAC's revised code of conduct made it clear that the group was neither partisan nor aligned with any political party, pointing out that those who participated in what he called an "infamous statement " in favor of the PDP deserve appropriate sanctions, as provided for in the New IPAC Rules.

Okafor said: "It is strange that IPAC, which is an embodiment of political parties, is rushing to the media to give an open endorsement to the PDP, in a matter which has the Labor Party (LP), All Progressives Congress (APC), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), among others, as interested parties.

"What they did was an exercise in futility and should be ignored by INEC. They simply satisfied those who recruited them.

“The CUPP unequivocally denounces the content and essence of this briefing by a handful of IPAC members. It in no way represents the position of the 18 political parties that make up the IPAC, members of the CUPP included. »

Meanwhile, Labor Party (LP) National Chairman Julius Abure yesterday called on INEC to protect its remaining integrity by not succumbing to pressure to rattle the party from its hard-won victory in Enugu.< /p >

Abure, in a statement yesterday in Abuja, said it is worrying that the review of said electoral process is taking INEC eternity. He said the party had received reports that INEC's ongoing review of the state's election results was biased against the LP and paving the way for the People's Democratic Party (PDP).

He said: "Reports reaching our party indicate that the ongoing review of the results of the Enugu State gubernatorial elections by INEC is being adapted for to modify the LP to favor the PDP.

“We do not want to believe the information, even if we consider it to be credible. We are also aware that the INEC, having reviewed the information from the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and the IReV , must now know that LP clearly won the election.

ALSO, following the suspension of the governorship of Enugu State and the collection of the State Assembly election results, the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) yesterday stormed the INEC office in Abuja and demanded the electoral body release the results already collated.< /p>

The civil rights group also said INEC needed to take action, as it has already said results will be announced when collection resumes at 5:00 p.m. yesterday.

HURIWA's national coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, led the protest, carrying placards with inscriptions such as: "INEC publishes Enugu government results", "Stop the scheme against the Southeast", among others.

Onwubiko warned the electoral arbiter not to give in to pressure from desperate and powerful politicians, who want to install and impose their candidates above the collective will of the people.
