Erik ten Hag slams 'unacceptable' behavior by Man Utd stars in friendly loss to Cadiz

Ten Hag was looking to use the full squad of players who had traveled to Spain, with most of his stars still at the World Cup, or resting after exiting the tournament in Qatar. But there were still plenty of experienced players in play against Cadiz with the likes of Scott McTominay, Anthony Martial, Victor Lindelof and Donny van de Beek leaving for United.

There were also starts for Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Brandon Williams at full-back, although both were ruled at fault for Cadiz's first two goals of the game in 13 minutes. Martial halved the deficit soon after from the penalty spot, but United failed to equalize before the break.

Ten Hag made 10 outfield changes at the break to give some of United's talented young stars a chance to shine. Kobbie Mainoo scored just minutes after the restart and looked threatening throughout, but United's youngsters went on to concede two more as Cadiz won 4-2.

Ten Hag put on a frustrated figure all the way down the touchline and he angrily denounced his side's "unacceptable" start to the game. "It's pretty clear, we weren't awake - we were still sleeping for the first 15 minutes," Ten Hag said.

"They are a threat in transition. We've seen, the second goal can't happen. You're not awake... but especially in midfield you can't run away. It's not not possible, unacceptable.

"The first goal is too. A set piece, bad organization and discipline in the organization, you concede a goal. But then we came into the game and a penalty - I think that it was clear - but we couldn't equalize before half-time."

He added: "The first 15 minutes it can't happen. It's not our standard. It shouldn't happen. We talked about it but then we have to hit it, draw a line and then pass something else, but that may not happen in the future."
