Essex all-rounder Critchley signs deal until 2027

He joined Derbyshire ahead of the 2022 season and played 54 matches for Essex across all formats, scoring 2,000 runs and taking 80 wickets.

The 27-year-old was the club's player of the year in 2023.

"I feel like I've been constantly improving since I've been here, which was one of the main reasons why I wanted to stay," he told the club's website.

Critchley hit 132 in on his debut against Kent at Chelmsford in the County Championship in April. 2022 and has since added two more first-class centuries.

He also made a career best of 5-28 with his leg fractures in the last T20 Blast against Middlesex. a year before losing to Somerset in the final.

Essex will be looking for Critchley to continue his good form with the bat mice with Sir Alastair Cook retiring and Dan Lawrence moving to Surrey.

"I enjoyed my first few years here and really wanted to stay," Critchley added. .

"Obviously we had some changes in the team this winter, but we have I made some good additions, so I'm really looking forward to this year and the next few years."

The Head coach Anthony McGrath added: "His value to the team is enormous, and that was fully demonstrated with his Player of the Year performances last year.

"He's been working particularly hard on his stick lately, and it's brought a lot of positive results. He's great to work with, and we look forward to having him for a long time to come."
