Ex-Tottenham midfielder reportedly 'taking' Maguire to north London but has Man Utd warning

Man Utd 'will lose money' on Harry Maguire, according to Jamie O'Hara, who approves a transfer to Tottenham.

The England international moved to Old Trafford for £80million from Leicester City in 2019 and played every game in his first Premier League season for Man Utd, in which he finished third and reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League.

But Maguire has been criticized by fans and pundits for his performances over the past two seasons, with social media jumping on every little mistake he makes.

The Man Utd captain made England's squad for the World Cup in Qatar despite being dropped by new Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag.

But Maguire showed his ability as he was one of England's best players in the tournament and started every game on his way to a narrow 2-1 loss to France in the quarter-finals.

And his impressive performance has led to discussions that he is too good to sit on the Man Utd bench and could seek a transfer in the January transfer window.

It has been suggested by Ally McCoist that Tottenham would be a good move for Maguire in the next two transfer windows and O'Hara agrees with the Rangers legend.

O'Hara told talkSPORT: "Tottenham may have been a cry for the centre-back, I know we need a centre-back."

He added: "Manchester United will lose money.

"Say Spurs come for him in January, I'll take him to Tottenham by the way. We need a centre-half."

Former Premier League goalkeeper Brad Friedel believes there are 'a whole host of reasons' why Maguire should leave Man Utd, including 'fan abuse',

"It's really hard to say what Harry Maguire should do," Friedel told Bookmakers.com.

"You started for England, you're at Manchester United. Do you need to leave a club like Man United? I think there's a whole range of reasons why a player like Harry Maguire should possibly look elsewhere.

"You know, first and foremost, the fan and media abuse he suffered at United, it went way beyond what a sportsman should receive, I think we can we agree on that.

"Harry Maguire is a very good defender, we just saw him in the World Cup playing against the best. So, you know, maybe he just needs to leave if he doesn't want to get into the team.

"If he gets into the team, the fans should support him and the media should fire him. If he plays badly, you don't have to pursue him on a personal level.

"I don't know Harry Maguire as a person at all, but he doesn't strike me as a bad person and the players in the England team like him.

"So I don't understand why all of this negativity has gotten so personal against him and because of that I can understand why he might just want to go somewhere else and have a brand new start and then continue to be the very good one defender that he is.”
