Expert advises national airlines to apply as flag carriers

Centurion Security Limited Chief Executive Captain John Ojikutu (Retired) has reported that domestic airlines are seeking government approval to appoint one or two of them as carriers. flags instead of going to court over the Nigeria Air deal.

He said he had reservations about the lawsuit brought by Nigeria's air operators against the federal government and its foreign technical partners and majority shareholders.

He argued that there are so many things wrong with the FGN-ET deal.

Ojikutu advised national airlines to seek government approval to designate one or two of them as flag carriers rather than go to court.

"What I think private airlines can do instead of wasting their time is seek government approval to designate one or two of them as flag carriers on at least five Bilateral Aviation Safety Agreement routes. » < /p>

Expressing his displeasure with the partnership with ET, he said that as far as he was concerned, the airline would die the same way the defunct Virgin Nigeria died.

He said, "So it's not something that's going to be imposed on the next administration. It's not government policy that we have to have a partnership with ET. So I am sure that the next government will not succumb to this.

"What they have now is a government airline, not a national carrier. The government just called one or two people. In SAHCOL, two people own 78% of the shares and one person in MRS, which is a foreigner, owns 60%. So invariably it's the government and one or two people as far as I'm concerned."
