Ezra Miller's 'The Flash' Slowly Starts at Box Office Despite Hype

Ezra Miller's 'The Flash' has been hailed as the greatest comic book movie of all time - but it seems audiences don't care...because, so far, they don't. will hardly see .

The day one box office numbers are in...and they're not hot. Between Thursday's previews and Friday's, 'The Flash' only made $24.5 million domestically, meaning this movie isn't even close to hitting initial estimates. $70 million or more.

At this point, "Flash" is expected to reach $55-59 million over the 3-day weekend, which is a huge disappointment considering the word of mouth it's generated. BTW, The Rock's "Black Adam" performed slightly better last year on opening day...and that movie was widely considered a big flop. With that in mind, it really is a disaster.

You may have heard of the buzz over the past few months – tons of screenings have been hosted by Warner Bros. There was even an anecdote about Tom Cruise seeing it recently...and calling the director to praise him and the movie. Like we said, it's been the talk of the town for a while.

Despite all of this favorable publicity - outside of Ezra's personal scandals - it would seem the average moviegoer doesn't give a damn...but it's hard to say why at this point.

Some might attribute it to Ezra himself... who has been mired in controversy for about 2 years now. It may also be the absence of a traditional press that the studio has opted for - there have been virtually no interviews before - but others are pointing the finger at James Gunn.
