The Silver Arrows have a “serious problem” with their new car on the eve of the 2023 season, according to Giedo van der Garde.
The ex-F1 star claimed the eight-time Constructors' Championship winners were struggling after a difficult test.
He said, "Mercedes just didn't do it. They have a serious problem."
The team openly admitted they were behind their main rivals, with Russell admitting they were unlikely to challenge for victory at the Bahrain Grand Prix.
Hamilton added: "We have things we need to work on, it's still not perfect and we're still not able to match the Red Bulls or the Ferraris right now.
"Who knows where we will be next week, we'll just try to stay positive."
