FCDA revokes diplomatic plots of Ghana, Malaysia and Thailand

The Federal Capital Development Authority has revoked plots granted to the embassies of Ghana, Thailand and Malaysia, for obstructing the construction of a major highway in the nation's capital, reports the PUNCH.

FCDA Executive Secretary Shehu Ahmad confirmed the development while briefing the media on the FCDA leadership's efforts to deliver critical national infrastructure over the weekend.< /p>

According to him, the affected plots, domiciled in the diplomatic section of Abuja, were marked for replacement many years ago, to allow for the construction of the Ring Road One interchange on the Inner Southern Expressway.< /p>

Ahmad said replacement plots had been offered in some of the new developments, which the authority was developing in Guzape ll, to appease the embassies affected by the big infrastructure project.

He noted that the issues had been resolved at the diplomatic level, with the missions concerned accepting the offer of replacement plots, to pave the way for the construction of an interchange on this section of the road .< /p>

"We had some difficulties with diplomatic plots. At Ring Road One, we were supposed to have an interchange there, but we had problems there due to diplomatic plots.< /p>

"When you have a problem with an embassy, ​​it's like having a problem with the government of that nation. Many diplomatic steps have been taken to ensure resolution, but we have replacement plots and they have indicated that they are ready to accept it, and we will soon develop our exchange there,” Ahmad said.

ISEX, otherwise known as the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Highway, is a strategic highway that runs through Galadimawa and Games Village in Abuja.

The highway passes through Area 1, Area 2, National Christian Centre, Central Bank of Nigeria Headquarters and Police Headquarters to Villa Bridge before terminating at the AYA bridge, as the Northern Highway.

The PUNCH also learned that the first phase of the project, which has been significantly expanded, is being built by China Geo-Engineering Corporation at a cost of N39.8 billion.

Some other projects currently being carried out by the FCDA, as listed by Ahmad, include the construction of a new headquarters for the ECOWAS Commission, the African First Ladies Peace Mission and the construction and equipping a 220-bed Gwarimpa. District Hospital.
