Fe Noel RTW Spring 2023

"I show when I have something to say," said Fe designer Felicia Noel Noel, just before his parade. The last time she was on the catwalk at New York Fashion Week was in 2020, and a lot has happened to us since. Noel, however, thinks close to home, having recently lost her Aunt Lydia George. She called her collection "I wish you were here", a tribute to her aunt, finding a way to channel her grief into her designs. "Everything is useful," said Noel, one of this year's CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalists, citing not only her clothes, but also the music, decor and lights.

Her tribute to her aunt began with a simple maxi dress in a rosy hue, she had a hint of transparency and fluidity that create an ethereal atmosphere. Noel's DNA is resortwear, often paying homage to its Grenadian roots. And the resort was present with its touch of romance, it was mostly sheer and puffy – showing off bra tops, satin robes and embroidery on a strapless cloud-like dress and even some intricately embroidered swim options . But as she noted, "unexpected" things were there too. Like a golden ivory corset with matching wide pants, its power dressing version, or a black tailored look on a male model or floral embroidery on black tulle on a cloud-shaped dress. "When you go through something, you become rebellious," she said, channeling that spirit into new ideas for her brand.

There is an emotive lightness and feminine elegance that comes through in her work, probably due to the fact to look within to create.

Like grief, clothes had moods, coming in three acts. She topped it off with silky water-printed slipdresses - a blue and green pattern had a dreamy effect. The Final Dress, a partnership with financial services company TIAA, made a claim that women are paid less than men, leaving them with 30% less in retirement savings

Called "the Dre$$", it was a corseted strapless dress with a ruffled petticoat, a dress top with voluminous sleeves and a 16-foot cathedral train - and it was all made of artificial silver, $1.6 million to be exact.

The message was clear: Noel has a lot to say.
