FG purchases 316 operational vehicles for FRSC for law enforcement activities

On Thursday, the Federal Government inaugurated 316 operational vehicles endorsed by President Muhammadu Buhari for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to boost its operations to keep Nigerian highways safe.

The Federation Government Secretary, Mr. Boss Mustapha, who officially inaugurated the vehicles comprising 239 patrol cars, 49 ambulances, 23 tow trucks and 5 patrol bicycles, said that the operational vehicles will contribute to the improvement of field corps operations, which will give Nigerians a better automotive experience

He reiterated President Buhari's commitment to the provision of transport infrastructure as a key determinant of performance in the development and growth process of any country, noting that investment in transport infrastructure encourages a transformative economic impact.

Mustapha said that while the efforts of the federal government remain consistent, it is right that its agencies responsible for certain regulatory aspects of infrastructure are living up to expectations and that is where the FRSC intervenes for the regulation of road traffic.< /p>

"If responsible regulators do not live up to their bills, the government's efforts would have been in vain," he said.

FRSC Acting Corps Marshal Dauda Ali Biu said in his remarks that in line with the contemporary trend in traffic safety and the giant strides made to reposition the Corps for maximum productivity, the FRSC is deploying more operational vehicles as another attempt to improve overall patrol operations and improve coverage and visibility over 204,000 kilometers of roads nationwide.

He said: “Since the creation of the FRSC some 34 years ago, the Corps has set an ambitious goal of self-transformation into a world-class organization. from a Country Capacity Review and Corps Needs Assessment conducted by the World Bank a few years ago.

"It is important at this juncture to state that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has continuously shown its commitment to achieving a safer automotive environment in the country by supporting the operations of the Corps on all fronts.< /p>

“Prior to the recent approval, the administration had supported the Corps with a total of 705 vehicles comprising 595 patrol vehicles, 61 ambulances, 39 patrol bicycles and 10 tow trucks to improve the operational and administrative activities of the Corps.

"The recent approval of the purchase of 316 additional vehicles through the 2022 Response Fund, of which we are inaugurating 111, speaks volumes about the determination of the current government to eradicate accidents and deaths on our roads< /p>

“The Corps hopes to acquire more vehicles and expand our borders until full coverage of all our operational commands is achieved.”

He, however, appealed for improved funding to enable the Corps to achieve its vision of full coverage of operational commands nationwide, which includes 12 area commands, 37 sector commands, 223 commands units, 58 outposts and 527 station offices.
