Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri on Tuesday expressed in Yola his gratitude to voters for their support in Saturday's supplementary gubernatorial election that ended in his re-election.

The governor, candidate of the Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP), also praised INEC for organizing free, fair and credible elections.

Mr. Fintiri secured 430,788 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Aishatu Binani of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who won 398,788 votes in the election.

In his acceptance speech, the governor promised to provide more democratic dividends for the development of the state.

"You voted for the continuity of the functioning public school system and the payment of examination fees from the West African Examinations Council and the National Board of Education for our children.

"You voted for continuity in the provision of health care and health insurance that allow vulnerable people easy access to quality health services.

Mr. Fintiri particularly praised INEC's institutional capacity in the election, especially its use of new technologies in conducting the exercise.

“The technological innovation introduced in the conduct of the election and the tireless commitment of INEC management and staff added tremendous value to the credibility of the election,” the Governor said.

Mr. Fintiri thanked and appreciated national and international election observers, media, security agencies and all other stakeholders for the role they played in ensuring a free, fair and credible election.
