Museum to return 19th-century painting stolen by Nazis from descendants of Jewish people in ner origin.

French realist Gustave Courbet's oil landscape was seized from Robert Bing in occupied Paris in 1941 because he was Jewish, panel says governmental.

He recommended to the Fitzwilliam Museum at the University of Cambridge to return it to his descendants.

A spokesperson for the museum has confirmed they will follow the recommendation.

The report on the painting came from the Spoliation Advisory Panel - a body of judges and historians who investigate claims of Nazi stolen artefacts.

It is said that the 1862 work La Ronde Enfantine, which depicts a forest scene, was taken from Mr. Bing's apartment in May 1941.

The painting was removed by two men from the Einsatzst ab Reichsleiter Rosenberg (ERR), a German task force responsible for acquiring cultural spoils in occupied lands.

Mr. Bing then joined the French Resistance and was awarded the Croix de Guerre medal.
