People's Democratic Party presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar called the APC's Presidential Campaign Council's recent press release on the conflict within the PDP "dishonest" and a "laughable work of 'an intruder'.

Recall that APC Campaign Council Media and Publicity Director Bayo Onanuga said earlier on Friday that Atiku's 2023 presidential bid had failed, based on the recent report by the 'Economic Intelligence Unit which indicated that APC presidential candidate Bola Tinubu would win at the polls.

Onanuga also pointed out that infighting between the party's Wike camp and the Atiku loyalist, and the ethnic imbalance in the party hierarchy, had led to a loss of trust among party members. He also said that Atiku's inability to unify the party showed that he would be unable to do the same with the nation.

In a rebuttal, Atiku media adviser Paul Ibe said the APC should focus on the "credibility burden that continues to weigh on his campaign", instead of interfering in issues PDP miners.

He also said that the "conversation" within the PDP showed that the party was a platform where democracy thrives, unlike the APC, where there is a "graveyard peace".

>

The statement read in part: "We would be kind enough to remind the APC that when, in the coming days, the campaigns begin in earnest, Nigerians will need answers to some important character questions about their candidate and rather than spending precious time on what never concerns them, must use the few remaining days wisely.

“Secondly, everything that happens in the PDP is a conversation between the party leaders and that, in itself, is a reflection of the PDP as a vibrant and engaging political party. The conversation in the PDP is about building consensus, which in itself is a major ingredient for peace and unity.

"The same cannot be said, of course, of the APC where what exists is graveyard peace at best. It is common knowledge that in the seven plus years that the APC has been in power and with the hardships the party has imposed on the common people of Nigeria, the APC candidate, former Governor Bola Tinubu has not had a single time, stood on the side of the people.

>

“And it is for the obvious reason that the APC presidential candidate considers his ill-conceived presidential ambition more important than the adversity his party has unleashed on a vast majority of Nigerians. APC that its presidential candidate must come to terms with the failures of the party over the past seven plus years, he must also know that Nigerians will reward their failure with nothing less than a resounding defeat in the elections.

“Atiku is a democrat at heart and it shows in the way he continues to shoulder the responsibility of ensuring that the PDP saves Nigeria from the grip of the APC in the general elections of next year."
