Forced kiss: the Spanish Federation turns around and asks Rubiales to resign

Luis Rubiales has been asked to resign by the Spanish Federation (RFEF).

Spanish football's governing body has released a statement urging the FA president to step down.

This follows the controversy raging around the Jenni Hermoso kissing scandal.

After the Spanish women's football team beat England in the final of the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup, Rubiales was pictured grabbing Hermoso and kissing the player on the lips.

The player said her consent was not asked before the kiss.

Rubiales refused to resign despite his provisional suspension by FIFA.

Days after accusing Hermoso of lying about the incident, the FA appears to have done an about-face.

They now want the resignation of the head of football.

They took the decision after a meeting of the Commission of Presidents of Regional and Territorial Federations of the RFEF.

"After the latest events and unacceptable behaviors that have seriously damaged the image of Spanish football, the presidents demand that Mr. Luis Rubiales immediately tender his resignation from his position as president of the RFEF", can we read in part in the press release.
