Fubara vows to sack school principals for sectarianism

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has read the anti-riot law to school principals in the state, saying anyone caught involved in cult activities would be summarily dismissed .

He stressed that schools in the state are meant for quality teaching and learning, not a breeding ground for sectarianism.

Governor Fubara said this on Tuesday during the commissioning of the renovated Government Comprehensive Secondary School, Borikiri, in the old township of Port Harcourt.

He said his administration is committed to providing world-class buildings that will inspire teachers to give their best in educating students, because he believes in education as foundation of development and growth.

Fubara noted that although the project was initiated by his predecessor, it was completed by his administration by effectively deploying taxpayers' money for the betterment of the people of Rivers.

While charging the education authority to do everything possible to secure the facilities, the governor enjoined students to devote more time to their studies to become the best in their careers.

The governor said: “Today we have a world-class building. We have an environment that makes you feel and enjoy learning, even our students will be happy to be at school.

“It will also encourage our teachers and inspire them to do their best. This is why the government of the time launched this initiative.

“When we came on board, we saw every reason to believe that the project had been concluded and commissioned for the good of our people.

“Let me say it here, this should be policy. Any director found to be associated with sectarianism will be removed from office. »

Making the commissioning, the former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Chief Onueze Okocha, SAN, commended the administration of Governor Fubara for transforming the school with quality structures and learning facilities that have become enviable.

In his description of the project, the Rivers State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Chinedum Mmom, said there were administrative blocks of staff offices, laboratories for science and agriculture, including information and communication technologies, and a library.

"There is also a block of 24 classrooms, a multipurpose hall with a capacity of 500 places and a sports complex," said Professor Mmom.

On his part, Chairman of the School Old Boys' Association, Dr. Nobel Abe, expressed gratitude to the state government for responding to their call and remodeled the structures of the school to make it a worthy learning institution.
