FUNAAB VC, Salako bows out and is replaced

The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Ogun State, Prof. Kolawole Salako, has resigned after five years in office.

Salako was appointed vice-chancellor of the university on November 1, 2017.

On Monday 31 October 2022, the last day of his mandate, the staff of the Institution organized a farewell party in honor of the outgoing Vice-Chancellor.

Besides university workers, the event also brought together traditional leaders from the host communities as well as leaders of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in Ogun.

In his words, Salako, who expressed his joy at leaving university amid honor and celebration, said he wanted to be remembered as someone who would never no compromise on excellence.

“Excellence cannot be compromised. is why I want to be remembered," Salako said.

When asked about his wish for the university, he replied, "My prayer is that FUNAAB will be stronger. I pray that I will be stronger and that FUNAAB will be stronger too."

Speaking, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Studies, Professor Christian Ikeobi, said that the university community will miss Mr. Salako “for bringing positive growth and development to FUNAAB”.

Ikeobi recalled how Salako cast the university in a positive light by lifting it from 38th to 9th position in the Nigeria University Rankings.

He added that the FUNAAB College of Veterinary Medicine, under Salako, “ranked number one in Nigeria,” saying that was what the Don would be remembered for.

Ikeobi revealed that the board announced an interim VC to succeed Salako on Tuesday.

“We now have an interim Vice-Chancellor appointed by the University Board. He will take over tomorrow (Tuesday). He is Professor Olusola Babatunde Kehinde. substantial VC be nominated by the university,” Ikeobi revealed.

Meanwhile, the Balogun of Mawuko, Chief Adeoye Adekunle, appealed to the federal government to return the management courses to FUNAAB.

This, Adekunle said, would prevent the Mawuko satellite campus from becoming an abandoned project, saying the campus has accelerated community development.

While bidding farewell to Salako, the community leader pleaded with Salako's successor not to abandon the ongoing projects undertaken by the outgoing Vice-Chancellor.
