Ganduje video: Court orders flogging of Kannywood TikTok sketch makers

A Kano Magistrate's Court on Monday ordered the flogging of two Kannywood TikTok sketch makers, Mubarak Muhammad (Uniquepikin) and Nazifi Muhammad.

They are being remanded for weeks for allegedly defaming Kano Governor Abdullahi Ganduje's character in one of their comedy sketches.

The decision issued by magistrate Aminu Gambari on Monday ordered that the two boys be whipped with 20 strokes of the cane each, among other conditions.

The judgment also ordered the skit makers to sweep the magistrate's compound for a month and pay 20,000 naira each for "public disturbance".

The court also ordered them to return to their Tik Tok handles and other social media platforms and make another video apologizing to the Governor similar to the video they posted earlier .

The video

The video, seen by PREMIUM TIMES, that got them in trouble was a comedy skit that saw them impersonating Governor Ganduje.

In the sketch, they portrayed Mr. Ganduje as a corrupt politician who sold all available public land in the state.

The comedians were arraigned by police at Magistrate Court 58, Nomansland, Kano on November 3.

When the charges were read to them, the two TikTokers pleaded guilty to the charges of conspiracy and defamation of the governor.

The magistrate therefore ordered their remand in custody again and adjourned the case until November 7.

Mr. Ganduje, the governor, had previously been involved in a corruption scandal.

He had struggled to disentangle himself from the public perception that he was a corrupt public official since 2018, when the Daily Nigerian published a video showing the governor collecting money from a government contractor.

In October 2021, PREMIUM TIMES published how his wife, Hasfat, was arrested by the EFCC over a corruption and land fraud case reported by her son.
