Get Ready for the Robots at Maker Faire Orange County 2022

Orange County is more than just the beach. Hidden among the palm trees and sleepy communities of the California coast between San Diego and Los Angeles, the creators have been busy building crazy projects, creating whimsical costumes and battling fantastic robots. Next weekend, September 10, they'll be out in force at the OC Fair & Event Center hangars in Costa Mesa showcasing their work, networking, and mingling with other curious and creative people after a seven-year hiatus.

Originally started at UC Irvine Arts Plaza in 2012, the event moved to the Beall Center for Art + Technology and UC Irvine's Blackstone LaunchPad in 2015 before a years-long hiatus extended by the pandemic. In a region known for research and innovation, university and student projects are unsurprisingly part of the event, but its new producers hope the off-campus venue will be more representative of the local maker community than ever before. Read on to learn about some of the 80+ exhibits from creators, collectives and entrepreneurs who will come together on Saturday to celebrate how they continue to learn and stick around to see which robot wins the battle!< /p> Combat Robotics = Action

For the first time, Maker Faire OC is hosting a full FIRST Robotics Arena with 11 participating teams. While many FIRST robotics competitors showcase their robots at Masker Faire around the world, only a few events showcase the full competition experience - the skills, power and dexterity of these robots in action and competing against each other. the others are not to be missed. This year's game is impressive. They're 150-pound robots that run around picking up balls and shooting them into baskets, then ending each period with a climbing challenge. Check out some of the teams and robots that will be on site.
