Governor of Gombe assures flood victims of government assistance and palliative measures

Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya Inuwa has assured all victims of the flood disaster in Funakaye Local Government Area (LGA) that the state government will provide relief and relief to ease their suffering and loss.

The assurance was given when the state government delegation, led by the Commissioner overseeing the Ministry of Environment and Forest Resources, Alhaji Shehu Ibrahim Madugu, visited some communities affected by the recent flood in Bajoga, Funakaye LGA on behalf of the Governor.

Recall that a three-year-old child died while his two-year-old brother was seriously injured following an early morning downpour that wreaked havoc in parts of Bajoga town, including Shara-Mansur and Bodoriyel.

The State Government Team's sympathy and assessment visit followed Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya's directive to the Ministry of Environment, the State Emergency Management Agency, the SEMA and relevant agencies to move in immediately and conduct timely damage assessments as well as provide relief to relieve the suffering of the victims.

Other members of the state delegation included the Commissioner for Internal Security, Hon. Adamu Dishi Kupto, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Ibrahim Sule Bage, the representative of the Management Agency State Emergencies (SEMA), among others.

Upon arrival, the delegation was received and led to the affected areas by the President of Funakaye LGA, Alhaji Ibrahim Chedu and other stakeholders.

In his remarks during the visit, Hon Madugu conveyed Governor Inuwa Yahaya's condolences and sympathy for the lives lost and damage caused by the floods in the affected local government.

According to him, "The essence of our visit today is to offer you our condolences for this natural disaster that has engulfed your communities as well as to assess the level of damage caused with a view to developing an intervention recommendation to the government so that they can help the victims",

He further stated that "Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya would have personally visited you but asked us to be here on his behalf as he has traveled out of state on official business",< /p>

He then urged flood-prone communities to heed and adhere to the Nigeria Metrological Agency (NIMET) flash flood forecasts and warnings.

In his response, Funakaye Local Government Council Chairman Ibrahim Adamu Chedu praised Governor Inuwa Yahaya for his quick response by identifying with the affected communities and assured him of his council's willingness to support its administration at all times.

The delegation also visited the Emir of Funakaye, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Muazu Mohammed Kwairanga and also offered condolences to the monarch for the natural disaster that struck his community.

Communities visited included Shara Mansur and Jillahi, among others.
