Google rolls out Android app streaming to Chromebooks after beta

You no longer need to try a beta to stream Android apps to your Chromebook. Google has released a Chrome OS M115 update that makes Android app streaming accessible to many more people. If you have enabled Phone Hub, you can run an Android app directly from your mobile device instead of installing it on the computer. The upgrade lets you reply to a message or check for your lunch delivery without having to reach for your handset.

Functionality is still limited to a handful of Android 13 compatible phones from Google and Xiaomi. From Google, you'll need a Pixel 4a or later. Xiaomi fans, on the other hand, need at least a 12T. Your Chromebook and your phone must be on the same Wi-Fi network and physically close. Some networks may not support this feature, but you can use Chrome OS instant tethering to establish a link if needed.

As during the beta, you won't want to use app streaming for games or other intensive Android apps. It's more for responding to notifications than for any serious engagement - you'll still want to install apps for it. However, it offers Chromebooks some of the phone integration you find in macOS and Windows, and can help you stay focused while you work.

The M115 upgrade also lets you sign PDF documents and save signatures for later use. Google also redesigned the keyboard-oriented Shortcut app with a new interface and easier built-in search.
