MOSOP President Fegalo Nsuke said in a statement that the Ogoni people lack confidence in the ongoing Ogoni clean-up project, as outlined in the report by the United Nations Environmental Protection Programme. environment.

Nsuke, in his message to mark the 30th anniversary of Ogoni Day, accused HYPREP of executing bogus contracts and urged the agency to suspend awarding new contracts pending conclusion of the agency's ongoing audit.

MOSOP also called for a more transparent environmental clean-up of Ogoniland with a preference for the supply of drinking water to the population, and urged the federal government to accept its proposals for the creation of the Ogoni Development Authority. .

He also called for a proper restructuring of the Nigerian federation to secure the rights of the Ogoni people to function within a Nigerian federation as the Ogoni people.

“The Nigerian government has been insincere in its execution of the Ogoni environmental cleanup exercise. The whole exercise lacks transparency and has no community representation, as MOSOP has been inexplicably excluded from participation and monitoring of agency activities.

"We regret to state that we have no confidence in the exercise as it has been conducted so far.

"While we believe an audit of the exercise is underway, the cleaning agency, HYPREP, continues to execute bogus contracts. We therefore demand greater transparency in the work of HYPREP, a halt to awarding new contracts pending the conclusion of the ongoing audit.

"We demand that the water supply be given emergency measures and be given priority as a lifesaving measure and that an integrated water supply program be implemented across the Ogoni to address water crises. »

MOSOP further urged the Ogoni people to exercise their rights in the upcoming elections based on their informed judgment, as well as to resist any incitement to resort to violence before, during and after the elections, and urged the youth to reject attempts to be used as political thugs.
