Gunmen abducted Chief Nengak Ropshak, the elder brother of a former People's Democratic Party Plateau State gubernatorial candidate, Kefas Ropshak, aka Kefiano.

It was learned that Elder Ropshak was abducted by gunmen who attacked his Rin community in the Quaapan local government area of ​​the state on Saturday.

Community residents who confirmed the attack told The PUNCH in Jos on Sunday that Ropshak's kidnappers had made contact with his family members and were demanding N100 million in ransom.

The Peoples' Democratic Party, in a statement, expressed shock at the development.

The statement signed by the party's publicity secretary, John Akans, reads in part: "The Plateau State branch of the People's Democratic Party received with sadness the news of the kidnapping of the Chief Nengak Ropshak of Rin Ngas Quanpan Local Government.

"Chief Nengak is the elder brother of His Excellency, Chief Kefas Ropshak (Kefiano), aspiring Governor in 2023 under the Peoples Democratic Party.

"We are shocked and saddened by the kidnapping of Nde Nengak Ropshak who was kidnapped from his community home when the criminals invaded the area firing sporadically and eventually captured him to an undisclosed destination, who are now demanding a ransom of 100 million naira.

"We call on the Plateau State government to immediately take responsibility by ending these ongoing kidnappings and killings of innocent citizens by criminals.

“Our prayers are with the family at this time, especially Chief Kefas Ropshak for this horrible and unfortunate incident.

"May the Lord give you strength to overcome."

Plateau State Police Command spokesman Alabo Alfred could not be reached for comment on the abduction as his phones were off at the time of filing this report.
