Gunmen kill four in Anambra, police step up patrols
Gunmen killed four people on Nzomiwu Street in Eziani Community, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.
It was established that the gunmen invaded the community on Tuesday and began firing into the air, killing the victims - three men and a woman, who was believed to be pregnant.
The reason for the attack could not be determined, but a source in the area said the gunmen immediately fled the scene after killing the victims.
The source said the gunmen fired indiscriminately as the bullets hit all four people.
Confirming the attack in a press release, state police spokesman DSP Tochukwu Ikenga said the bodies of the victims were deposited at the morgue.
Ikenga said: "Police/military operations intensified in Ihiala and nearby town as officers responded to a distress call in the early hours of Tuesday on Nzomiwu Street, Eziani, Ihiala, recovered dead bodies, three men and a woman at the scene.
"Preliminary information revealed that the armed criminal elements of Ak47 started firing indiscriminately and without provocation, unfortunately, bullets hit four unarmed civilians. The bodies were deposited in the morgue."
