'He gives us so much' - Arteta outlines Arsenal's plan without Jesus as Nketiah impresses

Arsenal won 3-0 against Lyon in a friendly and Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has shared his thoughts on Gabriel Jesus injury.

The Arsenal striker could be out for several months after picking up an injury at the World Cup with Brazil.

It is not a good time for the Gunners given that they are currently in a title race with Manchester City and currently have a five point lead at the top of the table.

Jesus brings much more than just a goal threat to this Arsenal side, as his relentless pressing and elite hold-up play add a lot to Arteta's side.

Arsenal were in action in Dubai in a friendly against Lyon which they won 3-0. Arteta spoke about Jesus' injury status after the match.

"Obviously we know he needed knee surgery, and we'll have to take it day by day, week by week and see where it takes us," Arteta explained via Sky Sports.

“What affects us is who we are as a team because he gives us so much. So what we can do after that, when we know the timing a bit and when we can get him back, we'll look at the options and try to make the right decision.

"We have players, we have a lot of accompanying players.

"Do we have the players who can give us the performance and consistency we need to be and maintain and improve where we are?"

Eddie Nketiah started in the striker role for Arsenal against Lyon and managed to score himself. Gabriel Magalhaes and Fabio Vieira were also on the scoresheet.

Nketiah has mainly played in a supporting role this season, as his 12 Premier League appearances have come on the bench.

With Jesus now set to be out of action for the next few months, perhaps he will have more first-team opportunities. Gabriel Martinelli is another option that could play in the middle.

Arteta was happy with what he saw from his side, adding, "We always like being here. It's a place where we're looked after really well, where we have the right conditions to play and practice.

"And it was our first game here since I became a coach, and it was a great experience. So thank you very much to everyone involved, who made it possible. And obviously very happy, because it's about to win and we won today, and I think we are playing at a good level.

"We know that we want to (give) opportunities to young players. It's something we absolutely want to do, and having them in camp is great.

"And to see them - some of them very young - performing and having opportunities with the first team, it's really nice to see."
