I am not stingy, I have used public money for the public good — Obi

Labour Party presidential flag bearer and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi said that as governor he was not stingy with money but used public money to the public good.

Obi said this Sunday at the Matter Dei Catholic Church during an interfaith prayer meeting organized by Catholic Action Nigeria, Diocesan Chapter of Umuahia.

According to him, “I am not stingy. I have used public money for the public good and advised Nigerian politicians to use public funds for the good of the people.”

He revealed that he never collected or received anything from anyone as governor of Anambra, but rather kept the money for the people of Anambra.

He stressed the need to shift Nigeria's economy from consumption to production, saying that as President, "within two years, massive development will spread to all states and will make border towns only one".

He described as unacceptable the situation where, with all the enormous resources God has given to Nigeria, many people are hungry and "don't know when the next meal will come".

Also speaking, Labor Party gubernatorial candidate for Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti said it was time for Nigeria and Abia State to be taken care of, stating that “Obi shares and practices frugality. If we want to fix this country, we must reduce the cost of governance.”

Earlier, Auxiliary Bishop and Administrator of the Mater Dei Cathedral, Bishop Michael Kalu Ukpong, represented by the Chancellor of the Cathedral, Henry Maduka, called for intercessory prayer for "the intervention of God who knows Nigeria and Nigerians all too well."

According to him, “God knows the difficulties facing Nigeria and knows how to resolve these difficulties and trials, having blessed the country with human and natural resources.

“He now grants us new opportunities to answer His calls and to give us a new dimension and to avoid part of destiny and destruction.

"He now offers us a new opportunity by next year. It is not God who will come down to vote, but we human beings.

"We have a role to play and cooperate with the inspiration of God, otherwise self-destruction will continue to resonate.

"We must act decisively and act according to the will of God.

"It's not just by voting, but by standing up for votes. It's time to strengthen nation, state and local governments."

He urged Nigerians to take time and consider each candidate.

Sen. Victor Umeh of Anambra State; the Methodist Prelate, Kalu Uche; Apostle Agomuo, Chairman of Abia of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), and Chairman of Abia State, Pentecostal Federation of Nigeria (PFN) were among the dignitaries attending the occasion. p>
