I feel good - Ethan Ampadu is enjoying life in Leeds and is set to thrive with Wales

Ethan Ampadu thinks Wales will feel the benefits of his sedentary life in Leeds and the end of his wanderlust.

Ampadu has no regrets leaving Chelsea in the summer and heading to Elland Road after loan spells at RB Leipzig, Sheffield United, Venezia and Spezia – at the last three clubs he was relegated.

The 22-year-old joined Chelsea aged 16 in 2017 and was their longest-serving player until he left in July, despite making just 12 senior appearances in six years.

"It depends on you as an individual," Ampadu said of his exit from Stamford Bridge.

“If you want to stay, you express that opinion, but I thought it was a good time to leave. »

Ampadu became a popular figure with Leeds fans in the early weeks of the Sky Bet Championship campaign, despite an indifferent start under Daniel Farke, and is the only man to play every minute for the Yorkshire club this season.

Used during his 44-cap Welsh career either in central defense or midfield, Ampadu relishes the opportunity to play in the middle of the park at Leeds.

There is a rich history associated with this role over the years with Billy Bremner, David Batty, Gary McAllister and Kalvin Phillips among his central midfield predecessors at Elland Road.

Ampadu said: "It's not just the position I'm in, but the history of the club in general, what the club belongs to.

“We know on the outside where everyone wants us to be and inside ourselves what we need to do to get where we want to be.

"You obviously feel the pressure in the club, but it's more of an exciting pressure to know what you can accomplish.

“I feel good and enjoy being settled. I gave it my all in each of the loans and focused on development and becoming a better player.

"But maybe in your mind, when you know you're settled somewhere and you're not ready, there are little things you can improve.

"If you're playing a position, you can work on the fine details of that position to get to the next level.

“So far, the results have not really been favorable to us. But our performances gave us the conviction that we can do really well for the games to come after the international break. »

Wales will host South Korea in a friendly match in Cardiff on Thursday before meeting Latvia in a crucial Euro 2024 qualifier in Riga next Monday.
