African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has said his administration would investigate previous governments if elected in the 2023 presidential election.

Sowore made the statement via his verified Twitter handle, @yeleSowore, on Saturday.

The PUNCH previously reported that Labor Party presidential candidate Peter Obi said that if elected in the 2023 election, his administration would not conduct a witch hunt for previous governments .

Obi said this in an interview with reporters shortly after unveiling an educator, Dr. Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, as his running mate on Friday.

"As for probing past government, let me tell you: you see me arguing that you can't shut up your shop and chase after thieves, those who only watch yesterday and today will miss out tomorrow. God didn't give us eyes back, mine are to look forward.

“If you enter government today and decide to stop leaks first, you will get more. I will not participate in any form of victimization or witch hunts, this is not going to happen. live in law and order,” Obi said.

Meanwhile, unlike Obi, Sowore said that while the country could recover money from the late General Sanni Abacha, nothing should stop the country from recovering living government officials convicted of looted funds.

He said, “As President of Nigeria, I will investigate and recover every penny stolen by former Nigerian leaders, those who murdered innocent people and robbed them of a bright future. Sanni Abacha's money dead and buried, we should recover money from living legendary thieves."

Retweeting Sowore's tweet, Sowore's running mate, Haruna Magashi, posted, "There will be no exemptions, all political thieves, past and present, will be stripped under our administration. Funds stolen from Nigerians need to be recovered.”
