Ian Salisbury: Sussex head coach leaves club after two years

Ian Salisbury

The 52-year-old England player was responsible for the club's County Championship and teams with more than 50 players.

BBC understands he was put on gardening leave for handling Jack Carson and that he hadn't been in charge of a game since August.

Last week the club said Salisbury was currently "out of business" and that Sussex ended the following season- bottom of the Championship Division Two.

"We would like to thank Ian for his contribution to the club over the past two years and wish him well for the future, whatever that may bring," Sussex chief executive Rob Andrew said in a statement.

"He has helped develop a group of very promising young players and we look forward to seeing them progress further in the next few years."

Leg-spinner Salisbury have played 15 Test matches and four internationals of one day for England between 1992 and 2000.

He played county cricket for Sussex, Surrey and Warwickshire, helping Surrey win the County Championship in 1999, 2000 and 2002.

"J really enjoyed my time in Sussex for the past two years and the trip really helped me after the loss of my wife,” Salisbury said.

"However, it is the right thing for me and my daughter to look for a new challenge.

"Whoever succeeds me will inherit a very talented local team which, if supported from above, is ready to fly in the next few years. "
