Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has instructed Commissioners, Heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies to begin compiling the relevant information needed to document the successes, covering from 2015, when his administration began.

The Governor said he was determined to make a good handover to his successor, despite the fact that his predecessor did not make a good handover to him.

Wike gave office after being sworn in to five new commissioners and awarded them portfolios in the Executive Chamber of Government House in Port Harcourt on Saturday.

The commissioners are the Hon. Deinma Iyalla, assigned to the Ministry of Special Projects; Pr Prince Chinedu Mmom at the Ministry of Education; Hon. Boma Iyaye at the Ministry of Local Government Affairs; Hon. Christopher Green as Athletics Commissioner; and Burabe Anea-Bari Donald assigned to the Ministry of Leadership and Community Affairs.

He informed that his administration was in its last round and that it was necessary for the various ministries to start compiling records of their activities instead of the handover day

This was in a statement released by Kelvin Ebiri, the governor's press aide and made available to reporters.

The statement reads: "Everyone should actually collect the records of their various ministries.

“You will not wait for May 29, 2023. You must start now since this administration started in 2015. Say what we have done, and by the grace of God, when the new person (governor) comes, he will will have a passing grade and it won't be like me who didn't get a passing grade.

"Everything we've done, all the records. What we've bought from department to department, you need to start compiling them.

"I don't want to hear a situation where you say there's no time, there's plenty of time. You don't have to wait until the last day. That's why things are hard for some people."

Governor Wike told the newly sworn commissioners that his administration was in the final stages and they were so asked to ensure a good end.

He urged them to serve the state with unquestionable passion, to demonstrate competence and to leave an indelible mark in their various ministries of assignment.

The governor acknowledged that some of them had served the state in various capacities as former commissioners and special advisers.

He, however, urged them to use this opportunity to contribute more to the development of the state.

The governor described as an aberration the appointment of a person without the required intellectual sense to represent the state as a minister on the Federal Executive Council.

He was making a veiled reference to Hon. Udi Udom who was recently appointed Minister of State for Environment by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (rted).

Udom's appointment follows the resignation of former transport minister Rotimi Amaechi to contest the presidential post.

"I have never seen such embarrassment in my life. Yes, you have to name those who are loyal, but educated people are also loyal. This has never happened in our state.

“Not everything can be political. The image of the state is essential,” Wike added.

The Governor also advised that his administration has completed other projects slated for grand opening.

He therefore said that the inauguration ceremony of the project will begin in early August 2022 and will last two weeks.
