'Incredibly difficult' - Journalist assesses Newcastle and City's chances of signing 'prolific' 17-goal winger

Ben Jacobs thinks it will be "incredibly difficult" for Newcastle United or Manchester City to land Napoli striker Khvicha Kvaratskhelia this summer.

Kvaratskhelia left Dinamo Batumi for £8.5million last summer and is one of the hottest players in world football.

The Georgian winger has developed an exceptional partnership with Victor Osimhen as the Napoli side look set to win their first Serie A title since 1990.

Napoli paid absolute peanuts for the 22-year-old – who is now surely worth around £100m.

In 20 Serie A games this season, Kvaratskhelia has scored 21 goals with a league title all but assured.

It's no surprise to see Premier League clubs adding the youngster to their transfer wishlist.

Newcastle has been tied to Kvaratskhelia for some time and you have a feeling it would be perfect in their system under Eddie Howe.

According to Ben Jacobs, Magpies boss Howe considers the Georgia international a 'fit' because of his 'technical ability', 'pace' and because he's 'natural in a 4- 3-3".

City and Newcastle are "watching" Kvaratskhelia - who has "developed a prolific partnership" with Nigerian striker Osimhen.

Unsurprisingly, Napoli don't want to sell, especially if Osimhen leaves the club first.

A summer where they lose their two star players is certainly unthinkable, and if one leaves, they won't be financially dependent on selling the other player.

They both "enjoy playing together" and "Kvaratskhelia is not yet considering an exit from Napoli", although his agent is "exploring the market as part of normal due diligence".

Jacobs believes Napoli are the 'perfect club' for the winger at the moment and says 'it's going to be incredibly difficult' to sign him this summer.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says Napoli will not enter into any negotiations for Kvaratskhelia.

“He is doing very well with Napoli. So congratulations again to Napoli because Kvaratskhelia, in Serie A and in the Champions League, always performs at a super level,” Romano said on his YouTube channel.

"Fantastic, fantastic player. What's the point?

"I always see a lot of rumors and many of you ask me about Kvaratskhelia and Man United, Kvaratskhelia and Chelsea, Kvaratskhelia and Real Madrid and many more.

"But guys at the moment, and believe me, it's not usual to say something like that, Napoli don't want to open negotiations or talk to any club or agent."

A report from Italian publication La Gazzetta dello Sport states that Napoli will double the player's salary in order to fend off interest from Newcastle and co.
