Independence Day: FG declares a public holiday

The federal government has declared Monday, October 3, 2022 a public holiday to mark the celebration of the country's 62nd anniversary of independence.

Home Minister Rauf Aregbesola, who made the statement on behalf of the Federal Government, congratulates all Nigerians on this year's celebration and assures the government's commitment to address all the challenges facing the nation face and put smiles on everyone's faces.

He said, "The world is going through serious economic and security challenges which have also affected our nation. However, I assure us all that the government will not abandon the people, but will continue to face all these challenges with all the strength at our disposal until respite comes our way.”

Mr. Aregbesola reiterates Nigeria's eminent position in the concert of nations and greatness before the country if we work hard for it as a people.

“Our warmth, welcoming spirit and love, together with our boundless human capital and the wealth of our land, unquestionably make Nigeria the world's first black nation and the pride and beacon of hope of the world. The Minister urges Nigerians to use the occasion of the celebration to reflect on the challenges facing the nation and the role that individuals can play in addressing them.

He urged Nigerians to work hard, avoid all attraction to enrich themselves through criminal and immoral means, saying that it is only through productivity that an individual and the nation can create wealth and get rich.

The Minister, while wishing Nigerians a memorable independence celebration, reminds them that the founding fathers, despite differences in religion, tribe and language, always came together for the independence of the nation.

“Although our nation is going through challenges, especially in security, these challenges are temporary and do not define us. We are defined by the greatness of the Nigerian people in their diversity, strength, ingenuity and resilience. .
