FIFA has chosen the Flamingoes' best striker, Opeyemi Ajakaye, as the best player of the match against New Zealand at the U-17 World Cup in India.

The FC Robo star didn't score in Friday's 4-0 loss to New Zealand but stood out with her tireless runs, catches and link-up plays .

She was the heartbeat of the Nigerian attack and an ever-present danger to the opposing defence.

Ajakaye would have scored goals today if his finishing had been more clinical.

The Flamingos bounced back from their 2-1 loss to Germany by beating New Zealand 4-0 in their second Group B game at the U-17 Women's World Cup in courses in India.

Two goals in each half sealed victory, increasing their chances of progressing to the knockout stage of the competition.

Striker Omowunmi Bello scored the first in the 16th minute, converting a Tumininu Adeshina cross.

The Flamingos scored their second goal in the 34th minute as Miracle Usani, who scored in the opener against Germany on Tuesday, doubled the lead.

Midfielder Taiwo Afolabi made it 3-0 in the 75th minute, after a VAR review, before substitute Etim Edidiong sealed the emphatic victory with a fine strike five minutes later start of added time.

The win is a big boost for the Flamingos as coach Bankole Olowookere's side now only need a draw against Chile to qualify for the quarterfinals. final on Monday, after Germany beat the Chileans 6-0 in the other Group B match.

The Germans are first with a maximum of six points, while the Flamingos and Chile have three points each, but the Nigerians have a superior difference of +3 goals against the -4 of the South Americans .
