Insecurity: "We have provided enough technical support to security agencies" - minister

Communications Minister Prof. Ali Pantami said that the telecom sector has done a wonderful job of providing enough technical security support that would help reduce the multiple security problems in the country.

Pantami, speaking during the inspection of Kano's second 4-tier data center with a capacity of 0.7 petabytes, said on Sunday: "From the digital economy sector, our responsibility is to providing services and providing security support and we have overtime done this effectively”.

He said: "Today we sanitized SIM card data, introduced Nim and Sim registration policy; just to let you know we did a great job giving our mega support to the security of Nigeria”.

The Minister added that "although I am not even a member of the National Cybercrime Council, which is part of the office of the National Security Advisor, we have still sanitized the system and provided facilities for institutions security so they can operate and succeed”.

"I am sure that we have done what we are supposed to do effectively and I have no doubt that if our interventions are used, they will significantly solve the security problems in the country".

He said the fourth tier data center with a capacity of 0.7 petabytes is being implemented by Nation Galaxy Backbone Ltd and initiated by President Muhammadu Buhari to provide ICT services to Nigerian citizens and legal process .

He said that previous administrations had established backbone number one of the national information and communications technology infrastructure, which covered all of the southern states, but that the second center of data was to cover the entire northern region.
