Insecurity: Zamfara government announces closure of livestock markets

The Zamfara State Government has announced the immediate closure of cattle markets, commonly known as Kara, in five local government areas of the state.

Zamfara State Information and Culture Commissioner Alhaji Mannir Haidara revealed this in a statement released in Gusau on Sunday.

According to Haidara, relevant cattle markets include Danjibga and Kunchin-Kalgo in Tsafe LGA, Bagega and Wuya cattle markets in Anka LGA, Dangulbi and Dansadau in Maru LGA, Dauran in Zurmi LGA and Nasarawar Burkullu in Bukkuyim LGA.< /p>

He said the temporary closure of cattle markets was the result of the Security Council meeting.

“This is part of the measures to address security challenges in the state. The government has observed with dismay the sale and loading of stolen cattle by suspected members of armed bandits in the relevant markets,” the commissioner said.

The government has therefore called on security agencies and the National Directorate of Animal Health and Livestock Development to ensure strict compliance with the measures.
