International and Bilateral Consumers Owe Nigeria 4.71 Billion Naira in Electricity Bills Amid Electricity Crisis - NERC

International and bilateral electricity consumers supplied by Nigeria owe the country nearly N4.71 billion, figures obtained from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, showed on Sunday.

DAILY POST has learned that Nigeria's ten international, bilateral and private electricity consumers are yet to pay the sum within six months.

However, NERC said efforts are underway to settle the debts.

NERC revealed this in its Q1 and Q2 2022 reports.

NERC has identified the debtors as Odukpani-CEET, Paras-SBEE, Ajaokuta Steel and Mainstream/Inner Galaxy.

He added that others include Mainstream/KAM Industries, Mainstream/KAM Integrated, KAM Steel Shagamu, NDPHC/Sunflag, North-South/OAU and Mainstream/Adefolorunsho Ventures.

In the section on remittances by single and international customers, "no single payment was made by the special customer - Ajaokuta Steel Co. Ltd and the host community, with respect to market invoices 0.38 billion and 0.07 billion naira issued by NBET and MO, respectively in Q1 2022."

He added, “Bilateral customers, Paras-SBEE, Transcorp-SBEE and Mainstream NIGERLEC received bills of $2.72m, $2.74m and $4.61m from MO and each donated $2.72 million (100%), $2.74 million (100 percent) and $4.52 million (98%) respectively."
