Internet Computer will be a key alternative to AWS-like services - Dfinity exec

Dfintiy chief says Internet Computer will prove to be a boon for the blockchain industry which currently depends on ecosystems centralized like AWS.

The Web 3.0 ecosystem is built on the principles of decentralization, however, most aspects of the ecosystems are quite centralized. From metaverse servers to non-fungible tokens (NFTs), even several blockchain ecosystems are entirely based on centralized servers like Amazon.

Thus, these ecosystems face several vulnerabilities that come with centralization. However, Dominic Williams, founder of Dfinity, thinks the Internet Computer can change that for good.

In a conversation with Cointelegraph reporter Zhiyuan Sun at the Ethereum Community Conference (EthCC), Williams explained that with the use of smart contracts, internet computers will remove all human backdoors, which will make the next generation of Internet computers (ICPs) truly autonomous and decentralized.

ICP is a set of protocols that allow independent data centers around the world to come together and provide a decentralized alternative to today's centralized Internet cloud providers.

Williams noted that Internet computers will be essential to replace centralized servers such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) and said:

"We want people to replace those centralized systems with in-cartridge smart contracts on the internet computer. It's like an evolution of Dao technology, so everything is safe, secure, decentralized, and autonomous. We want to see those centralized Amazon web services replaced by the internet computer."

Williams then discussed the possibilities that ICP can open up for the blockchain world. He noted that smaller countries and projects will not have to create wallets and can simply integrate an internet computer into the bitcoin network to start transactions. He explained that the Internet “computer smart contracts can create Bitcoin addresses, receive and send Bitcoins while the complexities of UTX are hidden”
