Maikyau also stressed the need for the judiciary to be truly independent and described as worrying that "None of the candidates for the 2023 presidential election, who attended the opening ceremony of the NBA-AGC on August 21, 2022, spared any reflection on the independence of the judiciary.”

He called on the federal government to revise the 2018 report of the Committee on the Review of Judges' Salaries and Conditions of Service to bring it into line with current realities and give effect to the final recommendations that came out of it. will flow from there.

Maikyau said, "Our nation is plagued by several challenges: insecurity, economic crises, political instability and corruption. These are clear manifestations of the lack of justice in our society.

"The legal profession (the judiciary and the bar) has been rendered incapable of fulfilling its primary responsibility to the people, the promotion of the rule of law to serve the cause of Justice. Several government actions undermine the work of justice in this regard. »

"I noted in my inaugural speech that the fact that action had to be taken in the courts to compel the government to review and improve the welfare of judges and judges is reason enough to conclude that there is a deliberate scheme to emasculate and impoverish the courts, thereby strangling the course of justice in this nation.”
