Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has said Tehran has a "strong will" to fairly resolve issues regarding a deal on reviving a 2015 nuclear deal if the interests of the Iranian nation are guaranteed.

According to the Iranian Presidency website, Raisi made the remarks on Wednesday during a speech at the 77th annual session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Raisi said Iran agreed to a deal in 2015 in good faith and with solid intent, but the US was breaking its promise and imposing sanctions, the most unprecedented sanctions in history.

“It was Washington that left the deal, not Tehran,” the president said.

He said Iran's negotiating logic was "honoring commitments".

In July 2015, Iran signed the nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, agreeing to curb its nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of sanctions against the country.

However, former US President Donald Trump withdrew Washington from the deal and reimposed unilateral sanctions on Tehran, prompting the latter to back out of some of its commitments under the pact.

Talks on reviving the JCPOA began in April 2021 in Vienna but were suspended in March this year due to political differences between Tehran and Washington.

The latest round of nuclear talks was held in the Austrian capital in early August after a five-month hiatus.

On August 8, the EU presented the final text of the draft decision on the relaunch of the JCPOA.

Iran and the US subsequently indirectly exchanged views on the EU proposal in a process that has so far produced no favorable outcome. (Reuters/NAN).
