Wrong – Elumelu debunks report that he was appointed CBN Governor
The chairman of the United Bank for Africa group, Tony Elumelu, has denied reports circulating that he is being considered for the post of governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Recall that Imran Muhammed, member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had claimed that the head of the bank, Elumelu, was considered by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as governor of the CBN.
However, in reaction to Muhammed's claim, Elumelu through his official X account, formerly Twitter, declared the claim to be fake news.
"LOL. No please. This is fake news! he wrote.
DAILY POST recalls that after Godwin Emefiele was suspended as CBN Governor in June, Folashodun Shonubi took over in an interim capacity.
On July 30, the apex bank had been investigated by a special investigator, Jim Obazee, appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
