It may have taken 36 years, but the 'Top Gun' sequel, 'Top Gun: Maverick', finally landed in theaters in May, bringing Tom Cruise's iconic character back to the big screen. The film made over $1 billion at the worldwide box office, so it's clearly a financial success. Add to that the fact that it currently has a 97% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and we're confident in calling the film a total hit. The sequel was a long time coming, but it was worth the wait. Now the question is, will we have to wait another three decades for "Top Gun 3"?

Unfortunately, there's currently no "Top Gun 3" planned, but that doesn't mean it won't happen. "We would love to be with Tom [Cruise] again. We would love to be in the rear F18s again. So if we get the chance to do it again, I'm sure all of us would be there. ."

Ellis said that while he doesn't know anything about plans for a third episode, he's leaving the door open. "I haven't heard of it, so if you know anything, tell me," he said. "What do I know? Maybe there will be. Maybe there will be."

Another of the film's stars, Miles Teller, has also expressed support for a third 'Top Gun' - but he told Entertainment Tonight that Cruise is responsible for determining whether or not that will happen. "That would be great, but it's all up to TC," he said. "It all depends on Tom. I've had a few conversations with him about it. We'll see."

"For him to share 'Top Gun' with me and a lot of these other young actors, it's been a wild ride, and it's still going," Teller told ET. He also joked about the huge box office success of 'Top Gun: Maverick', saying, "That's definitely what my team said...
