JK Rowling has criticized fellow writer Joanne Harris, who chairs the Society of Authors, saying that the Writer Chocolat f has defended novelists who disagree with her on gender identity issues.

The creator of Harry Potter, who has recently shared a threat she received, said she and two other women felt "betrayed" by a lack of public support from the authors' union and its leader.

< p class="ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph eq5iqo00">In response, Harris condemned the threat against Rowling and said she had fought for all authors' rights even though she disagreed with their opinions.

Rowling has been controversial since speaking out against using the phrase "menstruating people" instead of 'women' in June 2020, saying she was against people 'erasing the concept of sex'.

After fellow author Sir Salman Rushdie was sta bbed on Friday, she posted a threat sent to her saying "you're next". Police are investigating, and she said they "were already involved in other threats".

When Harris was quoted as saying she had expressed sympathy for Rowling "and everyone else in a similar position", the Harry Potter author replied that she had "not received any communication from Harris expressing sympathy for the death threats and I received".

"Harris has consistently failed to criticize tactics designed to silence and intimidate women who disagree with his personal stance on gender identity ideology and has publicly stated, "Cancel is not a dirty word. We usually undo things we no longer want."
