JUST IN: Ortom's convoy involved in car crash, lawmakers injured

Several people, including two Benue State Assembly members, were injured when State Governor Samuel Ortom's convoy was involved in a car accident.

The accident happened on Friday morning as the governor and People's Democratic Party supporters traveled to the Utokon community of Ado local government area following the party's government campaign rally.

Our correspondent reports that the incident occurred when the driver of a branded bus fully loaded with PDP supporters lost control and rammed into three vehicles; a Jeep, a security vehicle and another bus in the convoy.

Several people, including state legislators representing Guma and Kwande West in the state assembly, were injured.

The incident that happened on Friday at 10:50 a.m. sharp also affected other vehicles.

The motorcade of the convoy consisted of Deputy State Governor, Engr Benson Abounu; Senator Abba Moro; members of the House of Representatives and members of the Benue South District House of Assembly; among other senior government and state party officials.

Meanwhile, an ambulance attached to the convoy evacuated the wounded to hospital while the others continued their journey.
