Juve discuss Real Madrid exit and Barca Super League cabal

July 14 - Juventus have started the process of withdrawing from the doomed European Super League project.

Although the initial idea fell apart in 2021, Juventus, Barcelona and Real Madrid had stuck to the general principles of a breakaway league.

But last month Juve requested talks with the two Spanish giants and have now started discussing their exit.

The three historic clubs are currently awaiting a ruling expected within weeks from the European Court of Justice on their legal challenge to what they claim is UEFA's monopoly control over European club competitions. But Juve say they can only formally withdraw once cleared by Barca and Real.

"Following these discussions, and taking into account the existing differences on the interpretation of the contractual conditions applicable to the Super League project, Juventus confirms that it has initiated the exit procedure," reads a press release.

The past few months have been turbulent for Juve, who were initially dropped 15 points by the Italian FA for breaching financial rules. The sentence was overturned but a second hearing led to a 10 point penalty.

To make matters worse, Juventus appear to have breached UEFA's Financial Fair Play rules. A final verdict, possibly on appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, is needed before the club can enter the Europa Conference League, a far cry from the Champions League exposure they are traditionally used to.
