Rock band Kaiser Chiefs had to think twice after a faulty public address system delayed the opening ceremony of the Rugby World Cup.

Leader Ricky Wilson sprinted along the touchline at St James' Park in Newcastle to boost morale.

The pre-tournament show came to an abrupt end minutes before England's opener against Samoa.

Speaking on the BBC, former England international Jon Wilkin said: "You may say it's funny but it's not."

He said, "I wonder, at the Olympics, could you throw the opening ceremony before the final 100 am?"

Event organizers apologized, saying "this wasn't the start we wanted", and thanked fans for their patience.
