Kalu: What way of President of the Senate?

Talk about justice, talk about fairness. They make life go round. In fact, this world of ours is anchored around the duo. The twins are inseparable. They are Siemens in a way.

The duo cannot be profiled. He has no nationality or ethnicity. It goes beyond borders. And it's borderless. Justice and equity are the engine that fuels and propels democracy. They are its foundation and its strength. These are the pillars that hold democracy together.

We can't pretend ours are any different in this climate. We cannot risk being an island unto ourselves. We must, by obligation, follow the tide. We have no other viable choice.

So be it with the 10th Senate presidency. The general elections are over. The battle has been fought. And the war has been won and lost. The focus is now on spoils of war.

Race is hot. Nothing less is expected. Suitors are also excellent political gladiators. And it increases over the minutes. The issue is important. And the 10th National Assembly (NASS) must lead well. He must avoid traps. The road is winding, lazy with mines.

The task ahead of the President of the Senate is Herculean. It takes Hercules to do the job. The responsibilities are enormous. This requires an equally strong character for the role.

We need a President of the Senate like never before. An extraordinary fixer; a builder of bridges of immense means; a silent listener and coordinator. We aspire to a personality that leads by example.

Orji Uzor Kalu fits the bill perfectly. He knows the business well. A proven politician and businessman. He came, saw and conquered. He has proven over time that he knows his onions too well.

He couldn't be alone in the struggle for power. Its co-competitors are no pushovers. They are full-fledged gladiators. They can be intimidating. But Kalu is no stranger to challenges. He won't succumb, he won't give up. His decision is made. His determination is absolute. The line-up: Dave Umahi, Godswill Akpabio, Osita Izunaso, Ali Ndume, Abdulaziz Yari, Musa Sani, Barau Jibrin and Adams Oshiomhole. Of this group, only Oshiomhole will be a new face in the Senate.

Four of them were governors. They include Kalu, Akpabio, Yari and Oshiomhole. Umahi is Governor of Ebonyi State. Kalu stands up. That's not unusual of him. He is on familiar ground and in his normal elements. Always standing to be counted; when it's convenient and when it's not.

He will bring this to play as President of the Senate. He steers the storm and dares the "sustainable". He is passionate about challenges. The reason why he confronts everyone who crosses his path headlong. Exploration is a hobby for him, adventure is a hobby. He is a problem solver. He fears no enemy. He has a unique style. He flaunts it with human feelings that surpass others. He cares whose ox is gored. He is conscious and calculated in his actions and inactions.

Kalu is not an all-time politician. He is a truly detribalized Nigerian with great leadership qualities. He remains firm on his conviction. Even when it was a risky taboo in the Southeast. He stayed with the elected president, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. And he didn't do it underground. He was open and simple. And the rest is sweet history.

The senate president's zoning to the southeast is a powerful weapon. This will correct some perceived wrongs. It represents fairness and justice. This will put an end to the persistent claim of marginalization. This is fairness at its finest.

Kalu in the race makes the case for the Southeast. He served as Governor of Abia State for two terms from May 29, 1999 to May 29, 2007. He entered the Senate for the first time in 2019. He represented and still represents Abia North. And almost instantly, he made a mark. His remarkable and unusual features could not be hidden. They could not go unnoticed.
